Understanding Tonsillitis: Effective Treatments, Causes and Symptoms

Tonsillitis happens when your tonsils swell. It is usually caused by bacteria like group A streptococcus. Children, teens, and young adults are often affected by children and it generally shows with signs like a sore throat, raised body temperature, ear pain, and swollen glands.

A general practitioner might diagnose it through a physical examination of the throat and sometimes performing a swab test to confirm a bacterial infection. Managing viral tonsillitis requires reducing symptoms through medications like ibuprofen or paracetamol. Antibiotics become necessary symptons tonsillitis if the infection is bacterial, though this is rare.

In recurring tonsillitis cases, a tonsillectomy is an option if the condition disrupts daily life. To stop the spread of tonsillitis, it is important to avoiding contact with others during symptoms.
